The Plaka UK & Ireland Group is made up of three companies, Anchor bay Construction Products Ltd, FCA Wholesalers & Plaka Ireland respectively.

The business is part of the CRH Group which is a leading global building materials group employing over 89,000 people at around 3,900 locations worldwide.

As a fast paced, dynamic and rapidly growing company the business now requires a Group Purchasing Manager reporting to the Managing Director located at its head office in Erith.

This position offers a great opportunity for the successful candidate to showcase their skills and
experience in a fast paced team environment.

About the Team

The Purchasing team has a wide-ranging remit across the Purchasing spectrum. The team consists of 2 purchasing administrators who along with the successful candidate manage the purchasing requirements of the Plaka UK & Ireland Group. The team manages the buying of a wide range of products worldwide and work closely with the sales team in procuring products in the most efficient and time critical way for clients. The team will lead the relationships of key supplier accounts and will continue to look for new products in conjunction with the Commercial Director.

Main duties will include:

  • Manage the day to day running of the department and the work schedule of the buyers
  • Manage the key supplier relationships
  • Overseas site visits to suppliers to ensure quality ,health & safety and employee rights are being maintained to CRH PLC standards
  • Overhaul our complete supply chain management system and help with the development of a UK centralised distribution operation
  • Monitor and track deliveries and rate their speed and performance ratings.
  • Monitor supplier service levels.
  • Manage existing stock.
  • Liaise with existing and possible future key suppliers to develop a strong relationship leading to an improved stock portfolio and reduced pricing.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Director in developing new product lines and seeking out new markets for existing portfolio.
  • Gather and analyse data in relation to purchasing categories in order to benchmark and identify potential cost saving measures.
  • Flexibility to take on extra duties and integrate into the business.
  • Flexibility to travel to other sites and suppliers which may include international travel.
  • Assist in the collation of shipping/delivery and export paperwork from suppliers.
  • Assist the Commercial & Operations Directors with strict stock control procedures.

The Successful Applicant

We are looking for a tenacious, results-focused individual who demonstrates a high level of professional integrity and extremely strong technical understanding and skills across the purchasing function. You will bring a passionate and proactive leadership style to the Purchasing function and have the ability to work in a high pressured environment with a view of in the future moving to look after the complete supply chain management of the Group. In addition, the following skills and experiences will be required:

  • 10 years plus in a Purchasing/supply chain management role
  • Organised approach.
  • Excellent time management skills essential.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Enthusiastic, self-starter with good initiative and a proactive approach to work.
  • High level of proficiency using Work, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent team building and coaching skills, able to develop a strong team ethic and deliver results through effective team leadership.
